Innocent people being murdered should be an 11, no matter where and why. Because it's happening in one place, we shouldn't discuss it happening in another? How many threads have you started about ethnic cleansing in Africa? If your answer is zero, does that mean your concerns are also narrow?
well, got this brochure inviting me to a district convention to the public talk.
oddly, the time for the public talk was nowhere on the invite, instead they had a location and the start/end times for all 3 days.

I watched MASH with my dad every night after the news. There was an episode when Radar went home on leave and he met Trapper John's family and TJ's little girl called Radar "daddy". It was the first time I ever saw my dad cry. He turned his big green recliner away from me and I could hear him sniffling, but I didn't say anything. Just kissed him on the cheek and went to bed when it was over. He shuns me now, but I know he still loves me.

a couple of weeks ago, my wife and i visited her aunt on saturday.
when we were leaving, i happened to glance down and spotted some 'trash' that had evidently fallen from the door and was down in and among the potted plants that share the porch space.. i instantly knew what it was from the 'look', and reached down and grabbed it as we were walking to our vehicle.. sure enuf, it was a 4-page small pamphlet... some sort of preaching words... (i didn't read them), and then on the back side was a stamped 'invitation' for the person to go to their district assembly the last week in july.. ummm... belton, tx is about 150 miles away from here.
i'm so sure that someone would drive 150 miles to go to something that they just read about on a pamphlet stuck in their door.

I received one of the invitations last week, too. Did you see where they had a picture of the two teenagers in the drama? The caption was something about a "live play" being performed. They mentioned "live play" twice in the copy. I guess they know they have their own language and that no one would know what a drama was. Also, has anyone been to a play that wasn't live?

over the years on jwn i have often found myself hunting through posts of newcomers, hoping against hope i suppose, that the newbie would be one of my former friends in the local congregation down the street.. i just find it hard to imagine that not a soul among these people has taken the courage to investigate their religion and leave like my wife and i have done.. as the local 'active apostate', i also supposed that at any moment some of the 'brothers' would come covertly to my home, knock and say something like " i am out - please let's talk about it, why i left, why you left.
but, none of the above has ever happened.
i did come across a local former jw here, from another congregation, and we have become good friends over the past few years.

That's what I was thinking as I was listening to the update. I like how they defer to the man on their team who has the best chance of winning or who is in the lead on a particular day. One wouldn't necessarily think of the Tour de France as being a team sport, but it really is. It's already pretty damn fascinating, what with the "race within a race" aspect of it re: time trials, etc., but the unspoken politics make it even more tasty.

It does make sense, but i still have questions. Are these rules written or is it just kind of a gentlemen's agreement? Like in golf, don't walk in the other guy's sight line while he's sizing up a putt? Or in baseball, if the catcher or the umpire takes a foul ball in the gonads, the other players make excuses to waste time, like talking to the pitcher or dusting off home plate or checking their facebook page ;-), until the injured player recovers and is able to breathe again.
The commentators I was listening to kept using terms like so-and-so "attacked" while a biker was getting a tire replaced, and they made it sound like this attack was in very poor form for the Tour. But they weren't just using that term, attacked, in reference to the tacks incident. Apparently, there were other times when one bicyclist would attack when he shouldn't have done that.
This is like trying to figure out the secret In-N-Out Burger menu. "I'll take mine animal style, please. Don't know what that is, but read it on a message board, wot?"
i think it's hard to share with new people in life,being raised a witness.
i never know when and if to bring it up.
now,just acquaintances,i don't usually talk about it.. but,with people,especially someone i may consider being in a relationship with,it's difficult to know the right time.
It's always hard to open up with someone new and especially so if you have a totally weird upbringing/background that's embarrassing to share. In my own personal dating experience, I've found that people are usually fascinated in an almost anthropological (lol) way about what it was like to be raised in a crazy religion. Just be open and honest and acknowledge that you were raised with a totally different aspect of life than most people are accustomed to hearing about.
Our stories are unique and honestly, can be pretty damn funny in a way. We couldn't buy Count Chocula cereal because vampires are demonized! We couldn't watch Bewitched because Darren is the devil! The people I've been involved with, once I decided to open to them, have been very receptive, sympathetic and genuinely interested in hearing my stories.
